Chicken Liver Training Bites

High-value, protein-rich treats perfect for training sessions

Chicken liver is a training powerhouse: rich in protein, iron, and B vitamins, and most dogs find it irresistible. Small, soft bites are ideal for rapid reward during obedience work, agility, or recall practice. Because they’re so palatable, a little goes a long way—so portion control is essential. Treats should never exceed 10% of daily calories; use tiny pieces and adjust meals if you’re doing heavy training. For more on safe ingredients and sourcing, see Ingredient Safety.

If you prefer a crunchy option for training, try Peanut Butter & Oat Biscuits broken into small pieces. For chew-focused rewards, Sweet Potato Chews work well. Liver treats are moist and perishable; follow our Storage Guidelines for refrigeration and freezing. Use Baking Techniques for even cooking without drying them out.

Ingredients

  • • 1 lb chicken livers, trimmed and rinsed
  • • 1 cup whole wheat or oat flour
  • • 1 egg
  • • 2–3 tbsp water or low-sodium chicken broth
  • • Optional: 1 tsp dried parsley

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. 2. Puree chicken livers in a food processor until smooth. Add egg, flour, and broth; blend until combined. Mix in parsley if using.
  3. 3. Spread the mixture evenly on the baking sheet (about 1/4 inch thick). Alternatively, pipe small dots for bite-sized pieces.
  4. 4. Bake 15–20 minutes, until set and lightly browned. Avoid overbaking—they should stay soft.
  5. 5. Cool completely, then cut into small cubes or break into bits. Refrigerate up to 5 days or freeze in portions. See Storage Guidelines for best practices.

Why We Love This Recipe

High-value treats help dogs stay focused in distracting environments. Chicken liver is nutrient-dense and typically well tolerated. Keep pieces small—pea-sized is often enough—so you can reward frequently without overfeeding. Balance these with lower-calorie options like Sweet Potato Chews when you’re not in full training mode.
